It’s a prank clip created by an LG office in the Netherlands. The video captures people riding an elevator. What’s so special about it? The riders believe that the elevator they’ve stepped onto…has its floor panels dropping out one by one…leaving all on board scrambling not to fall.

Pretty thrilling, right? The prank was possible thanks to LG IPS7 series with its amazing ability to produce super lifelike colors for one realistic optical illusion.

A Closer Look at LG IPS7 Series…

Utilizing advanced IPS technology, LG IPS7 series delivers lifelike color representation and consistency across a wide viewing angle in 23” and 27” frame. Call Forwarding
Whether you’ve set your Skype account up on your home or work computer, the fact is, you are occasionally going to get important calls when you aren’t there. Thankfully, you can simply forward those calls to another Skype account or even a cell phone or land line so wherever you are, you are still reachable. To forward a call click on the “Tools” menu and select “Options.” From there set the forwarding number in the “Call Forwarding & Voicemail” section.

Filtering and Blocking Users
If you don’t take preventative steps, Skype can cause you some serious security problems. To block unknown or unwanted callers, simply click on “Tools” and select “Options.” From there, select “Privacy” and choose the level of security that works best for you.

Home Security System

Skype can double as an away from home monitoring system. Checking in is simple with Skype’s one and two way video calling. You’ll need two separate Skype accounts, a computer at home with a webcam, and access to the Internet. Using one account, setup the home version of Skype to auto-answer calls and automatically fire up the webcam. Then to check in, just use the second Skype account to call the first, and the webcam video will pop up.

Call Recording
There are several add-ons for recording Skype calls, including free Audacity audio editor and HotRecorder. HotRecorder is arguably among the best add-ons for users. HotRecorder allows searchable Meta text to be added to each recording, and works with Google Talk and other IM clients.

Enhanced Voicemail
If you use your Skype for more than just the occasional long-distance call, you should enhance your voicemail setup beyond the basic Skype default setting. Pamela offers (automatic) call recording, an answering machine for voice and video, automated chat reply if you’re away, Skype VoiceMail management, and email forwarding of audio files. In addition, Pamela will let you setup a separate greeting or voicemail message for different users, so that your business and personal calls won’t hear the same message.

Language Translation
It’s a global world out there, so whether you’re conducting business or pleasure with Skype, you are likely communicating with people around the world and may occasionally encounter language barriers. Thankfully, by using the quick add-on Universal Chat Translator you can communicate with anyone no matter what language they speak. The software only produces text translations, so you may feel like you’re watching a foreign film with subtitles, but the fact that the Universal Translator can read text in 11 languages and understand spoken text in 50 means that you’ll at least be able to get your point across.

Bringing Skype to your TV
With McePhone you won’t have to get up to find out who is calling ever again, as your incoming Skype calls will simply pop up on your TV screen. We had the opportunity of speaking with Sunggu Joe and Kangheui Cha, VP of the LG HE Design Research Lab to talk about their CINEMA SCREEN design.

The bezel thinness is so unnoticeable it’s almost surreal. How in the world did you make it disappear?

Cha: “It starts with a goal of getting the bezel down to zero. We call that essential design, focusing on creating beauty with just the essence of what TV design should be.”
Joe: “We shaved all unessential materials, components, and elements, and distilled everything to a pure screen with a bezel of just 1mm. It’s a stylish fit in any living room but, when it’s on, it takes a back seat to the action.

There’s no doubt about that, and the design is drop dead gorgeous! It almost feels like the screen is floating in mid-air. How did you achieve that effect?
Cha: “It’s not just the screen that has to disappear. We also need the base to go away, so we created the ribbon stand that is what gives it the secret floating look. Together with the nearly invisible bezel, it’s pure magic.”

Right, but really it’s not like you can just wave a magic wand. What are some of the biggest challenges that you face when you do design in general and what difficulties did you have turning the CINEMA SCREEN design into reality?
Cha: “One thing is for sure, we can’t just design what we want and take it to market. We have to know the science and engineering. We have to know what people want even before they do. And, we have to come up with a design that’s aesthetically appealing. We call our philosophy Tesign, or design and technology put together.”
Joe: “And for the CINEMA SCREEN design, it all comes down to the metal frame. Most TVs have one, but it’s covered over with a plastic frame for aesthetic purposes. Our challenge was to get rid of the thick plastic and metal frame, and we did that with a very unique pressed aluminum solution.”

With that in mind, what is the overall effect that you’re going for when you put the design and the technology all together?
Joe: “Minimizing the bezel is crucial to TV viewing. In fact, it might be the most important goal that we have. And this is especially with 3D content. The key is that we want our peripheral vision to be undistracted by anything in the room or even the TV itself. When your eyes see only pure screen, that’s what we call true immersive viewing. You can’t beat it because it’s like you’re being physically pulled into the action. You can’t beat that!”

Actually, that’s exactly what we’re wondering now. How are you ever going to beat something that’s unbeatable? What do you think the next big thing in TV design is going to be?
Cha: “That’s our biggest challenge, coming up with something even better. We’re excited about the future, and you’d be amazed at what’s coming for TV design. Flexible displays and transparent displays could change the TV scene very soon.
Joe: “Or, how about a TV that you can roll up and take with you?”

The LG Optimus L7
LG had a little bit of everything to exhibit at MWC 2012, from large screen display of the Optimus Vu to the highly impressive performance capabilities of the Optimus 4X HD.
